Opening, Tickets and more

Dear friends of the film festival,

In two days the doors to our cinemas will open. Before that, we would like to provide you with some useful information about the festival, the schedule and the grounds so that you have a great and relaxing time.

During the film festival, you can choose from around 40 feature films, 10 documentaries, two children’s and youth films and two short film blocks. In total, the program includes around 55 films, most of which will be shown twice, while individual films will be shown once or three times. This year’s celebrity guests include actress Antje Traue and director Andreas Dresen. Information on all films and their showtimes can be found in the program booklet, on our website at www.filmwochenende.de or in the program guide, which is available at all venues and in the Maschinenhaus during the festival and online. On the website, the “line-up overview” with numerous filter functions allows you to put together your own personal film program.

On Wednesday, January 29, between 5 and 8 pm, the telephone lines on 0931 / 780 23 888 will be open for reservations for the first time. Online reservations will also start at 5 pm at www.filmwochenende.de and will be active until the end of the festival. Reserved tickets must be purchased at the box office in the Maschinenhaus no later than 30 minutes before the start of the film. Otherwise they will go back on sale, for which there is an express box office.

Tickets can be purchased from Thursday, January 30, 2 pm – in the Maschinenhaus and online via the FiWo website. Online payment is possible by credit card, on site also by EC card and cash. In addition to paper tickets, digital tickets will also be available again, which can be scanned on smartphones or printed out form in front of the cinemas.

The first highlight on the same Thursday will be the opening event. There will be a champagne reception for invited guests from 7 pm – again in the Maschinenhaus – followed by a screening of the feature film “Long Good Thursday” from Finland (with German subtitles) from 8 pm in Cinema 1 of the Central im Bürgerbräu. Information about the movie can be found on the Long Good Thursday movie page.

In the following days, we look forward to a lot of interest in our lovingly compiled program – to be seen in the venues Central im Bürgerbräu with its three cinemas, Siebold-Museum, Keller Z87 and the Theater Ensemble (for the reading “Jeder für sich und Gott gegen alle: Erinnerungen” as part of the special event Spotlight Werner Herzog) – all on the Bürgerbräu grounds, Frankfurter Straße 87, Wuerzburg. As in previous years, additional parking is available at the nearby Vogel Convention Center in Max-Planck Str. 7. There is only limited parking available on the Bürgerbräu grounds themselves. The premises of the Central are completely barrier-free, the grounds and the other venues are only barrier-free to a limited extent. Please contact our colleagues on site for more information.

At the end of the festival on Sunday, February 2, we will once again award the audience prizes for the best-rated feature film (2,500 euros from VR-Bank Würzburg), the most popular documentary film (2,500 euros from Sparkasse Mainfranken Würzburg) and the respective favorites of the two short film blocks (500 euros each from Midlife Club). We would like to thank these and all other loyal sponsors!
