| | | | Phoebe is a nine year-old girl and quite special - her imagination is vivid but especially in school she won't or can't follow the rules. Unable to inhibit herself and confounded by the normal-obsessed world around her, Phoebe finds solace in the school production of Alice in Wonderland and inspiration from her unconventional drama teacher. She gets to play the lead – Alice, but her troubles outside of rehearsals worsen as pressures mount at home and in school. She is less and less able to keep her odd behaviour toward teachers and fellow students under control. Phoebe retreats to the imaginary universe of Wonderland, where the rules perpetually, whimsically shift and where the freeing and redemptive possibilities are endless. When the school director finally announces to ban her from participating in the play, with her parents´ support, Phoebe begins to fight, not only for her part but also for the acknowledgement of her oddity. . |
